Microblog Monday: Snow and Ice

My last post was about our trip to Washington to go sledding. Who knew that we'd see so much snow here at home the last few weeks? Last year we only got a VERY light dusting of snow that didn't even last a day! Last Wednesday we ended up getting several inches of snow. It also managed to get down to 15 degrees for a few nights, so it was pretty cold. Ayden and Rylee enjoyed being able to get out and play in it.

Eating snowballs

By Friday, most of the snow had melted. However, it came back on Saturday with a vengeance! Not just snow this time though. First, we had several hours of freezing rain that left a good layer of ice as a base layer. Then it snowed about 3 inches, followed by more freezing rain! We had plans to celebrate a late Christmas with my family that afternoon and then had a wedding to go to that night. We stayed home instead and spent another day in the snow.

They got pulled around on the sled.

Then they got pulled in the wagon, which didn't work too well.

They attempted to pull each other.

And Rylee ate lots more "snow ice."

By yesterday, everything was just one thick layer of ice! There was more freezing rain in the morning. By afternoon it was just regular rain, but that just made the roads a skating rink.

Can you see how icy it was?

Now we are expecting a full day of rain tomorrow and a 40 degree temp, so nobody will be surprised if there's some flooding. Fickle weather anyway...

    1. Wow! That is absolutely nuts having the weather go from 10 below one week to 60! I know we really have nothing to complain about because we really don't have this kind of weather very often, but that's also what makes it tough because our area doesn't have the equipment to deal with it.

  2. AWWWWWWWW, but the memories being made and the adorable pictures all of this crazy weather is creating!! We have had rain today which melted at least 1/2 of our 15" of snow. But tonight it is snowing again and we have accumulated at least an inch of snow and predicted up to 6" of snow!!! I guess the kids will get another snow day!! Beautiful snow but sure hoping it stops and goes away for the 2nd half of the month!!! No more fun stuff needs to be cancelled!!! ENJOY!! Love and hugs, Auntie

    1. We've had a lot of fun playing in the snow and ice. I agree that it definitely does suck driving in it though! We were home bound all Saturday and most of Sunday because it was just too dangerous to be out on the roads. Not worth it!

    1. It has been, but we stayed inside today! I just really couldn't bring myself to get them all geared up to go play in the melting slush, even though I know they would have loved it!

  7. The rivers definitely look swollen in Eugene. I wouldn't be surprised to see some flooding either. Were your snowflakes Saturday HUGE?? We had some that were about 2 inches across.

    1. Yes! They were huge and coming down so thick and quickly. It was awesome. I love when it snows, just not the aftermath!

  8. Great photos! Looks like so much fun for the kiddos, not so much for the adults who have to drive in it!

  9. You got all of our snow! We keep getting teased with winter weather advisories, and then nothing falls. I don't want to shovel it, but I do want a snow day. That looks so pretty.

    1. It's hard when snow is just teasing but never actually falls! I'm with you though, snow is fun to play in and is beautiful, not so fun to shovel and clean up.

  10. You guys keep getting all of Chicago's snow! We were forecasted to have a tough winter because of all of the snow we were going to get and so far....not much. Can you send some our way?
