Tuesday Bullets

You'd think with the kids being in preschool now, I would have time to catch up on things, but that never seems to happen. I didn't realize how fast 2.5 hours would fly by! Seems I barely get started working on something and it's already time to head back and pick the kids up from school. I always have blog posts swirling around in my head, but then never actually sit down and put them together. So, here's a quick summery of what's going on these days...

  • I'm working on the upcoming consignment sale. I've got almost all my items entered into the system and tags printed out. Now I need to work like mad to get everything tagged and on hangers. I have exactly one week to get it done, which sounds like plenty of time, but I am limited to when the kids are either at school or in bed.

  • We spent Friday night with Tony's parents. They have a ton of family visiting for a family reunion, so met a lot of people I don't know. It was okay, but not my favorite way to pass the time. The kids loved spending time at their grandparents though. Rylee was super happy that she got to ride her horse, Lucy.

  • I had a crazy lunatic mom moment happen on Saturday, driving home. Tony went to the Oregon State football game (they really suck this year. boo!) with his brother and nieces, so it was just me and the kids driving home. MIL had gotten the kids each a balloon on a stick, which we put in the back of the car for the trip home. About an hour into the drive, Rylee said she really had to go poopy. I still keep a potty seat in the back of the car for just these situations. It works so much better than dragging both kids into a gross public gas station bathroom. I took the next exit off the freeway and pulled into a closed auto parts store parking lot, which sits right next to a gas station. I was trying to hurry, so I opened up the back of the car before getting Rylee out of her seat. Wouldn't you know it, but those stupid balloons flew right out of the car and made a mad dash across the parking lot! Like a crazy woman, I chased after them because I had two kids that would scream like banshees if they lost their balloons. I was able to grab one of the balloons, but the other one was moving way too fast over to the gas station parking lot. A semi truck was pulling out to exit and had to slow down as I ran in front of him after this stupid balloon! He wasn't going very fast to begin with and I had plenty of room, but I still felt like an idiot running in front of him. Finally, a guy coming out of the gas station grabbed the balloon for me. Then I made a mad dash back to the car, because it was sitting there unlocked, with the back end open, with the kids inside, along with my purse sitting in the front seat. I stuffed the balloons into the front seat, trying to wedge them onto the floor board, with Rylee telling me she REALLY had to go poopy. But one of those damn things managed to escape again right as I was shutting the door!! Arrrggggg! This time I let the balloon go, because there was no way I would be able to catch up to it a second time. After getting Rylee out and onto the potty seat, I stood there bent over, trying to catch my breath, all while Rylee was screaming and crying about her stupid lost balloon. She cried off and on the entire rest of the drive home and for the entire evening. I officially hate balloons now.

  • Preschool seems to be going pretty good. Ayden adamantly didn't want to go the second morning, but once we arrived, he was off and playing. Every day since then has been relatively easy to get them out of the house in the morning and off to school. They are both full of smiles when I pick them up every day. It's definitely an adjustment though. For all three days last week, once we got home, they both turned into super cranky, emotional little bears. The 2.5 hours of peace while they were gone almost wasn't worth the crankiness in the afternoon! This week seems to be going much better.
Preschool Week 2

  • We struggled off and on all summer with Rylee peeing her pants. I have no idea what the deal is, because she definitely knows better. Well, she is back at it again here recently. Sunday, she peed her pants twice and yesterday she peed on our couch (steam coming out of my ears). And she doesn't seem to care! She just continues on about her business until I discover she is wet. I'm sure it all has to do with starting preschool and the change in our routine, but it's extremely frustrating when she's been completely potty trained for a year and a half already! Sigh.

Whelp, it's time to wake the kiddos up from their naps. If I let them sleep much past 3:00, bedtime becomes a challenge. And we can't let that happen because Tony and I are catching up on the show This is Us before the new season starts. I've already seen the first season, but Tony decided he wanted to watch it too, so I'm watching it again with him.

  1. There needs to be consequences for Rylee when she pees her pants. Take something away, put her in time out, something that will make her think twice about doing it again.

    1. Already done. This summer she had to sit out of swim lessons and watch her brother participate without her. A beloved toy was also put in time out. Her favorite "puppy purse" is currently in time out for three days, which must all be accident free.

    2. So...I would actually advise against disciplining her for this. Yes she knows that she needs to not pee her pants, but she is likely getting distracted with something else. From what I heard from other mothers this is EXTREMELY COMMON. Izzy was potty trained before she hit 2.5 yrs old and for some reason had full pee accidents or little pee accidents for a good six months. It has only been in the last month or two that she has been accident free every day. It's just something that they go through at this age....it's frustrating, but instead of going negative, talk to her about trying to make it to the potty next time. Maybe set timers once again? The other thing that has worked is that I say "okay we are going potty but mommy is going first" and literally every.single.time she runs into the bathroom and wants to go pee first.

    3. Rylee's been potty trained for 1.5 years already, but for whatever reason, we still go through these "accident' stages every once in awhile. I know it's normal, and definitely frustrating. I've tried ignoring it, using positive talk, and disciplining (not all at the same time, lol). Putting her puppy purse in time out for a few days has actually done the trick to get her back on track twice now. One of these times it will stick. Right??? We've had almost a week being accident free again.

Oh, and I should add that her and Ayden OFTEN race each other to the bathroom! haha! It actually leads to toddler meltdowns fairly frequently around here.

  2. Hooray for This is Us! I just turned in all my stuff for my sale and out of 222 items I brought, only 8 were rejected so I don't think that was too bad for my first sale! Good luck with getting ready for yours! I could only work in it in the evening when Olivia went down, so I feel you. And that balloon story still cracks me up!

  3. Looking forward to THIS IS US myself!!! Like Risa, the balloon story is FUNNY!!!! Nothing more exasperating the run away balloon from a toddler who then has a broken heart!!!! Good luck with the consignment sale!! Hope you sell lots and find GREAT deals too!!! And 2.5 hours does fly by! You just barely get relaxed and then to start a project, beyond impossible!!!! Love and hugs, Auntie

    1. I had to document the balloon story because I know someday I'll appreciate it, and hopefully someday the kids will appreciate the efforts I go to trying to make them happy! Lol!

    2. I LOVE the purpose behind documenting the balloon story!!!! Agree with both very strongly, you will appreciate the story someday, sooner than you think and your kids WILL DEFINITELY appreciate your efforts always!!! They are well loved and they know it!!!!! Love a smiling, chuckling Auntie

  4. Gorgeous photo : ) Cranky transitions are hard so hoping the twins get over the 'grumpy afternoon' phase really soon.

  5. I'm guilty too of laughing at the balloon story (which mirrors a Peppa Pig story) heroic mom efforts to recover it! Our local Old Navy gives away balloons, which usually helps me with a shopping trip, although this weekend she was indecisive about the colour choice and she left it in the next store. I did not go back for it! Fortunatey she forgot about it

    1. Hopefully, those heroic mom efforts help our kiddos to feel the love, even if they don't appreciate it in the moment. haha
That's cool that your local Old Navy gives away balloons! My kids would love that!
