Microblog Monday: Can I Have a Do Over?

I've been staying up WAY too late recently (11:00-12:00ish), watching Season 5 of Downton Abbey.  I was proud of myself last night for turning off the tv instead of starting another episode, and being in bed by 10:30.  Still not early, but better than it had been.  For some reason, Hubby was still up really late though.  At just past midnight, I heard him sneeze and he woke up Ayden.  I went in, covered Ayden back up, patted his back, and he actually went right back to sleep.  A bit later, Hubby finally came to bed, but then he kept me from being able to fall back to sleep, so I eventually moved out to the couch.  Both Ayden and Rylee decided to wake up at 5:40am.  Ugghhhhh!!!

It was almost time for breakfast when I grabbed a tissue to wipe Rylee's nose, but she made a game of it and ran away from me!  I just about impaled myself on the corner of a kitchen counter trying to catch her real quick.  Seriously, it brought me to my knees and drew blood.  If it were a sharp object, I would be dead.

About an hour later, Ayden got his fingers pinched in the folding closet door in his room.  His poor little fingers were so indented!  He was back up and running after 5 minutes of crying in my arms, but had another moment later, when he fell off a kitchen chair.  He wasn't hurt, but needed to cry for a few minutes and be loved on.

Later in the day, this happened...

How many small heart attacks can one mom have?  I was out of the room for literally no more than 90 seconds.  I really, really hope I can survive toddlerhood with these two.  I hope THEY survive toddlerhood!

Shortly after this, Ayden was climbing on his MegaBloks truck.  He fell and smacked his forehead on the floor.  Cue, more crying and a small, red lump on his noggin.

Can I have a do over on today, please?

  1. Yikes. All I can say to make you feel better is that in a year or two you can sit back and laugh at me as I'm pretty sure I'm going to be going through the same type of thing. Q seems intent on killing himself already.

    1. Oh I won't be laughing at you. I will be sympathizing!! But hopefully we can all look back on these toddler years and laugh, knowing we got through it!

  2. Oh, I remember these days veeeeeeery well. I love the expression on his face, like, "what? I can't be up here?"

    1. He knew he was in trouble! When I walked into the room, he had the cupboard door open. He quickly shut it as soon as he saw me. The little stinker!

  3. Oh, you will eventually be laughing at this! Even more so than this older generation as you have all of these pictures and posts to remind you of all of these stories that give you heart attacks now but some day, and sooner than you can imagine, you will be smiling about them and shaking your head and wondering how did you all survive this!!! Precious memories are being made daily in your household even when you do need a do over!!!! Love and hugs, Auntie

    1. Oh, I'm already smiling and shaking my head at all these moments, while praying that he also doesn't seriously injure himself and praying for patience for myself. I do realize it's funny, especially to those not dealing with this 10,000 times a day! lol

  4. Bumps and bruises are part of childhood. One of my favourite Calvin and Hobbs cartoons features wordless panels of Calvin playing outside, with some stars to indicate that he hurt himself at times. The last panel features him saying "If you're knees aren't grass stained by the end of the day, then you need to re-examine your life!"

    1. Oh yes. I know it's all part of growing up. What I didn't write in this post was the few hundred other times throughout the day that I caught them getting into things or climbing onto things they aren't supposed to. My children, Ayden especially, seem to take it above and beyond most. I keep telling myself that these will be good qualities when they get older. Right???

  5. LOL! I felt much the same way as you do, when our three were younger (they're now 15, 18, and 20). And I think the number of heart attacks allotted to parents is somewhere in the infinity range. Great picture! :D

    1. It's a very good thing it's in the infinity range, or I might not make it to their next birthday! haha!

  6. It's a good thing that kids are resilient because of all of the things they get into! Hopefully Ayden will learn about not putting his fingers in the closet door and not climbing on his new truck from these experiences. :-)

    1. Ohhhh, he still keeps playing with the closet door and climbing on his truck. He'll figure it out someday. I hope.... :)

  7. I can very well see that this will be my life in a couple of months. Hopefully, we can all survive.

But I have to say (yes, yet again) I just love their faces! And that whole "What? What did we do?" expression is putting a smile on my face.

    Hang in there, mama!
