Consignment Sale

I've pretty much become addicted to the local consignment sale here.  There's a fall sale and a spring sale every year, and I've participated in it now for the past 4 sales.  I love every aspect of it: selling stuff as a consignor, finding all sorts of good buys, and volunteering to work a few shifts for the sale.

This time around, I wasn't able to get as much stuff ready to sell because of our trip to Montana (which I promise to write more about!).  Also, because well, I'm a procrastinator.  I had quite a bit more I could have included, but I just ran out of time.  With that said, I still managed to make $298.20!!  My goal was $300, so I feel pretty good about what I made.

I also feel pretty good about what I found to buy!  As a consignor, I got to shop the sale the day before it opens to the public.  As a volunteer, I got to go to the pre-sale even earlier. Ayden and Rylee (mostly Ayden) have really gotten into dinosaurs lately, so that was my major focus to try to find.  I managed to snag 12 dinosaurs for just $4.  I also found a couple puzzles and the Madagascar movie.

They each got 2 dinosaurs now (which were a HUGE hit!) and the rest got put up for Christmas.  We also are saving the movie and the Mickey Mouse puzzle for Christmas.

My big spend at the sale was on snow gear.  I found two REI snowsuits, a pair of gloves, and a pair of snow boots.  I'm really hoping that we can take the kids to play in the snow and go sledding this winter.

The snowsuits

Here's what else I found at the pre-sale for Rylee:

  • 2 hairbows (I'm giving one to my niece for her birthday, though)
  • a pair of black boots
  • an orange sparkly ruffle skirt that she will LOVE
  • 2 Halloween shirts
  • a Christmas dress
  • 1 long sleeve layering shirt
  • 2 tunics
  • 2 other dresses
  • Frozen pj's
  • and a "night dress" (her word for a nightgown)
Rylee's stash

Here's what I found for Ayden:
  • 2 pairs of pants
  • 4 sets of pj's
  • 1 sweater
  • 1 long sleeve shirt
  • and the cutest dress shirt and vest
Ayden's stash also includes the snow gloves and boots

The last day of the sale is half price day.  I went early in the morning to browse through everything and see if I could find any more great deals that I just couldn't pass up.  I usually manage to find a few things....
  • 2 zip up sweatshirts for Rylee
  • a pair of pants
  • and another night dress
  • an OSU Beaver sweatshirt for Ayden
  • and an OSU shirt

my finds from the half price sale

Every single night of the sale, I checked a million times to see if the sales reports had been posted yet, so I could see what I had sold and how much I'd made so far.  As I said, I have become addicted.  It's exciting to see what people buy and it's fun to actually make a little money.  It also justifies my spending money at the sale!  lol  Even with shopping the sale, I still profited more than I spent.  Gotta like that!

I'm such a nerd, that I went back and read my consignment sale post from last year.  It was kind of fun to compare what I made then vs. now, and to remember where some of the clothes hanging in Ayden and Rylee's closets came from.

Now that the sale is over, I'm hoping to go through all the stuff I didn't have time to get in the sale and get it all organized and sorted now, instead of waiting till the last minute and doing it before the spring sale.  Maybe I'll even step it up and sell some of it on the local bst Facebook pages before then.  That would be nice, clearing out some of that stuff instead of storing it till spring.  We'll see!

  1. I love consignment sales too! I won't have to get any clothes for Wes any time soon because of generous friends, but I will likely get Izzy a bunch of clothes this weekend!

    1. Exactly! Sometimes I find things that are brand new with tags on them still, too. Or items that have only been worn maybe one time! You should definitely look into your local consignment sales.

  3. I love the fact that you are so into consignment sales and into buying from them too!! It's a good feeling as a stay at home Mom to buy cheap what you need and to help bring in some cash into the household too! Just adds to our laundry list of usefulness as a stay at home Mom! Most important job you will ever have and you are doing it wonderfully!!! You have a good plan for getting more organized. I hope you can accomplish some of that!! REALLY GOOD SHOPPING THERE, MOM!!! The kids are going to love their Christmas gifts!!! Love and hugs from Auntie

    1. I do think actual consignment shops are that way for sure, hit or miss. I rarely go to those, but I love the twice annual sale because it is HUGE! It would be impossible to walk out without finding at least something!

    2. Oh nice! I'll check this out. When we're done having babies, my plan is to sell the stuff at a sale like this. Way better than a garage sale!

    3. A garage sale is probably way easier, but you definitely make a LOT more money at a consignment sale! Worth it in my opinion! And I love that you say, when you are done having babies :)
