The grandparents have been looking for a kid friendly horse pretty much since Ayden and Rylee were born. Whelp, it finally happened! Ayden and Rylee now have a new friend for when they visit their grandma and grandpa.
Lucy is 16 years old and such a sweetheart. She is extremely gentle and kid friendly. She doesn't kick (although we still teach the kids not to walk behind her), and she doesn't spook easily.
Ayden and Rylee spent Saturday afternoon riding Lucy, with Grandpa walking them around their property. They had so much fun! Rylee really thought we should bring Lucy home with us, but she gets to stay at the grandparents. It's perfect. Ayden and Rylee get a horse, but the grandparents get to take care of it! heehee
Grandpa enjoyed this just as much as the kids! |
Feeding Lucy some grass. |
I'm not going to lie. Even though Lucy is a gentle horse and I know Grandpa would never intentionally put Ayden and Rylee in harms way, it still makes me a little nervous. They are a rodeo family and he knows his way with animals, but we're still gonna need to find these kids some helmets!

Awh, I grew up with a horse. It is the most wonderful experience and I plan to have my someday kids grow up with horses too! Enjoy it, you will be amazed at how they grow.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted a horse when I was a kid. I'm so glad that my children get the opportunity to be around one, as well as pigs and cows!
DeleteYou two have been so blessed with 2 adorable, beautiful, smart, funny twins and then to be so blessed by such GREAT grandparents!!! I just love that they are getting this experience!! I took my 2 last year to a "day camp" for learning about horses, grooming, putting the bridle on, being lead on a horse and then Kasey got to actually ride the horse by himself (they used their bike helmets) and even though Bethany was scared at 1st, she did finally get on and was lead around too! Kasey would LOVE to do it again but it's over in Ashland and it's not cheap doing it! But it WAS A GREAT 1st experience!!! Your kids are going to have so much FUN!!!!! Love and hugs, Auntie
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you did that with them! How fun that must have been!
DeleteOh man! The kid in me would have DIED had my grandparents had a horse! My grandmother always told my parents that she would buy a horse for me and my sister but they would have to pay for the upkeep and my parents just laughed as that was definitely NOT happening. How lucky for Ayden and Rylee!
ReplyDeleteThey really are very lucky to have such awesome grandparents! I'm glad they will have the opportunity to grow up around animals at least a little bit, because Tony and I are most definitely not animal people!
DeleteFrom the time I could talk until I was 14, I asked for a horse or pony for every birthday, Christmas, Easter, for everything! I grew up on a farm but we didn't have horses. Until I was 14 and a neighbor found an old horse with a swayed back and funky hooves, who needed a home. Her name was Poco and she was just a hand taller than a pony. She was so sweet and gentle and I LOVED her. She was soon joined by Big Boy who was her total opposite (because I started working on the horse farm and fell in love with him and worked to get him). He wasn't mean, he was just flighty and nervous and a really big baby. I had to use a bucket to get on top of him, but loved riding him. Sadly, Poco passed when I was in high school and Big Boy passed my freshman year of college. Still, little kid me would have been in high heaven if my grandparents bough a horse for me!! Congrats to the twins! :)
