This past weekend I went white water rafting, something I have always loved doing but haven't done since having babies. I was actually afraid of going this time and didn't really want to do it. I've done this same trip in the past and knew exactly what to expect, which included an 18 foot cliff jump into the river and the climax of the trip being a trip over Husum Falls at the end. I was fearful of ending up hurt. Or worse....
Now that the rafting trip is over, I can happily say that we all survived and I'm glad I did it. It was a lot of fun. I find it interesting and funny how things change when you have kids. I never gave stuff like this a second thought prior to kids.
We didn't purchase the pictures this time around, since we'd done this before and had pictures from that time. I thought I'd share those pics so that you could see why I was nervous. I mean, when the boat goes almost entirely underwater....
I'm in the front, with the white helmet. Tony's in the back with the yellow life jacket. |
We all managed to stay in the boat, then and now! |

Brave, brave lady! I love the pictures. The faces in the one after the raft comes back up to the surface are priceless!
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed when I look back at the pictures, and we have laughed at our expressions at the end many times :)
DeleteThat's pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteI can understand the caution. You're thinking about more than just yourself now. I feel it, too. Many hugs!
Yeah, this is something I don't want to do. Well done for you, though!! It's fun to live it vicariously, have to admit it.
ReplyDeleteDid Tony go again too? How exciting but understand thinking differently!!! I've come to understand that I'm beginning to think, I'm getting older and get hurt more easily and take longer to heal if at all so I kind of think things through more. But never have been a great adventurer anyway, so that may play some for me. Although there are things I have enjoyed in the past that I'm realizing my back can't handle the activity anymore. Just part of life but so glad you tried it once more!!!! I too love the pictures! You were REALLY under the water and the expressions are priceless!!!!!! Love and hugs, Auntie
ReplyDeleteIt was just me, Tony's brother and his wife that went this time. Tony's back was causing problems for about a month so we didn't think it was a good idea, and his parents went just a few days before us last week with some friends.
DeleteFun! I have always wanted to do that! But I agree- I have definitely become more cautious after having kids.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap! That's definitely under water, isn't it? I can see why doing this after having kids makes you nervous. I've never done that before but it would be really interesting to try it.
ReplyDeleteI like white water rafting, but that would be a little too much for me :-) 6 foot drop I could do. 18 foot drop is another story. I'm glad you had such a fun trip.
